Punk-o-matic 2: Myth? Reality?

Posted by Evil-Dog Apr. 12, 2008 @ 11:36 PM EDT

I'm currently working on Punk-o-matic 2, it was on hold for a long time but now I'm back on it, hopefully until it's finished. It's all because of comments left by people that I have the motivation to actually make it. So thanks for the support

A long time ago I made a post in the forums to let people make little logos to go on shirts and stuff for the character customization part of the game. Rest assured that all the logos that I kept are being used so thanks to all the people who made them. It's real cool to have people help you like that. I have over 100 logos made by people and that I didn't have to spend an eternity making
and NO I don't accept more logos hehe :)

So what would you guys want in Punk-o-matic 2, share your ideas and suggestions with me if you want. They are all welcome at this point. I think I'm heading the right way with all the right new features but sometimes, "out-of-the-box thinking" really helps and put things into perspective and can lead to very good changes.
I'm not actually gonna tell you all the features I added, I'd rather suprise people when it's out :)

Cheers

First comment, also fuck yes!

Woohoo!

Apr. 13, 2008 | 12:16 AM tacosorburritos says:

note by note playing?

like have 2 modes

1 like the first one

1 where u put in tabs or somethin

Apr. 13, 2008 | 12:36 AM Evil-Dog responds:

That's kinda impossible because I would have to record each notes and stuff, flash couldn't handle really well playing the different notes seamlessly, it doesn't have a sound processor like let's say a game in C++.
I'm sure you noticed that sometimes you get some offsync in Punkomatic 1, imagine on a note by note basis.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 12:18 AM Havik99 says:

The only thing i could think of is various styles of guitar like wah wah or echo.
Kinda like Rock Band

Apr. 13, 2008 | 12:38 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Yeah but then I'd have to record all the riffs with all the effects.
Real games have sound effect processors like EAX and stuff...like with DirectSound.
Flash doesn't have that.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 12:19 AM Sir-Nuts says:

My friend will go crazy when Punk-O-Matic 2 comes out, he loves the first version!

As for ideas... well... maybe customizing clothes, instruments or something...

Apr. 13, 2008 | 12:39 AM Evil-Dog responds:

that's already the plan

Apr. 13, 2008 | 12:20 AM FatalReactions says:

Yeah like tacosorburritos said
For those of us (LIKE ME =D) who actually play the guitar, there should be an option to put in tablature, i know it will take more boring work, but it would definitely make the game the greatest thing that ever happened to NG

Apr. 13, 2008 | 12:40 AM Evil-Dog responds:

why don't you grab your guitar and play if you play it haha why go through punkomatic...like I said, note by note is not an option with flash's sound capabilities.
cheers

Apr. 13, 2008 | 12:34 AM pickleman77 says:

Character creation would be nice.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 12:40 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Like I said, that's already planned, that's why I asked for people to make logos.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 12:57 AM Coolio-Niato says:

If possible create a database of songs users make that you can listen to by loading. It would be tough, but really worth it.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 1:01 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Yeah that would be awesome, I'll see what I can do. But I plan to make a community website where people can submit their songs and they can be rated and reviewed. In fact it's already there partially... it's www.punk-o-matic.net
I still need to make the song submission part. But it would be even better if you could access those songs in the game directly. but that could be hard you know with domain restrictions and all.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 1:09 AM Coolio-Niato says:

Haha you could always create a "highscore" system that saves the code for the songs, and have that highscore be a string + the song numbers. Then when you load from the highscore table and split the lines properly, you get the title + the song code + date creation w/e. Then you can load anyone's song =)

Apr. 13, 2008 | 1:12 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Yeah, I'll try something with external servers and see what I do about that

Apr. 13, 2008 | 1:18 AM Curs0r says:

YAAAAY!!!!!!!!
i was a big fan of the first POM, spent so much time on it...
so very exicited to see what new things are possible with POM2, though im sorry to say i dont think i have any suggestions that aren't obvious (more music and stage/character customization) or impractical with flash n' such, but im sure you and the community will come up with something wicked.
SO... i hope this and all the rest of the comments will help you stay motivated to make POM2 the best it can be.
Hell, its about time eh?

Apr. 13, 2008 | 1:21 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Yeah it's about time haha it's been on hold for too long :)
over 4 years...that's crazy!

Apr. 13, 2008 | 2:05 AM Xendarc91 says:

One word.... Career mode.... uh, 2... words.

where you start as a home/school band and you make songs to the set requirements and depending on the structure and compleated requirements you get graded
better grade = more money = better gear = more/better members = more sounds for making better songs = better songs = better gigs
and thats career mode.
then you got good ol' "Rock Out" mode (same as punk-o-matic1) where you can get more stuff from doing the story mode.
also, (I know it's PUNK-o-matic) although I love punk, I'm a Metal Head and would love to see a band style option where you can change the style of your band.

these are just my ideas for kickassedness.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 2:13 AM Evil-Dog responds:

The career mode is built in punkomatic 2...the way you describe it may give me some different ideas though, thanks
when you say band style? do you mean their appearance? if so then you'll be pleased with the character customization :)

Apr. 13, 2008 | 2:37 AM Xendarc91 says:

by band style i mean the type of music they play e.g. :punk, Metal, rock. (just an idea)
tho it's cool that I'll be able to customize how my members look

Apr. 13, 2008 | 3:04 AM Evil-Dog responds:

haha sorry I'll stick to punk...for now :)

Awesome! If you need ideas, here's a couple:

-bass guitar part?
-more solos/fills for lead guitar?
-people moshing!!
-some ska?

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:33 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Except the ska it's all there :)

oh man, that would be so cool

Apr. 13, 2008 | 3:52 AM OneRedMage says:

Punk-o-matic 1 was THE most reviewed portal entry. (mostly cause reviewers are like "hey! listen to my song: 12345---098765!"

Will Punk-o-matic 2 break that record much faster? Most definately HELL YEAH.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:34 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Haha, hopefully people will submit their songs to punk-o-matic.net this time :)

Easter eggs! Make them hard to find, other than the Dude!! scene in the first one. If there are customizable characters, there should be bonus instuments to find as well.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:35 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Hmm....interesting! Good idea! I'll see what I can do

Apr. 13, 2008 | 6:39 AM Kanti says:

MOAR DUDE SCENES xD

Yup :)

Apr. 13, 2008 | 6:51 AM AssualtRifleChampoin says:

DUDE your game rocks ! hurry up and make Punk-O-Matic 2 ! And an idea : make more band members with other music tools , and i am learning to play guiter so i love this game !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:36 AM Evil-Dog responds:

I won't hurry up, I'll take my time and make it perfect :P
I plan to include guitar tutorials for people learning guitar, that should help

Apr. 13, 2008 | 6:54 AM AssualtRifleChampoin says:

Your game is awesome dude you should hurry up to make Punk-O-Matic 2 .
and an idea : Make more band members with other tools ... and also
make Pop-O-Matic LOL .

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:46 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Pop? eww....

Apr. 13, 2008 | 6:54 AM Kanti says:

lol but seriously

ideas:
for the story line[so it has one] make it like where the first one was a audition for some punk rock out and your band made it to the next round :D

then im deff thinking a OUTDOOR stage with some huge ass speakers on the sides.

for backgrounding have it to where like you can be looking at the stage but then if you want you can swivel around and look out into the crowd like you was up on stage and then its easter egg hunting time! make it like when you click on someone or thing it has this chain of funny events you would see at like x-fest :P

ive heard you have customization covered already so ill skip that

i was thinking maybe if you wanted to you could select what your punks are playing like guitarists got a gibson or flying v or double neck, so on and so forth.

id also like cooler lighting effects than the first one but its not ALL about the lights i was thinking maybe adding some type of lazer rock show type thing with the mouse,.

click a option and the screen goes dark while the music you are made is playing then with some cool mouse effects make it light up the stage man!

im just pickin stuff outta my head for most of this but im deff here if you liked an idea and wanted more of what i was thinking or didnt quite get what i ment.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:38 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Most of what you say is kinda there...but you propose some gamplay that contradicts the gameplay that's already there. But better lights will be there. Lights that fit with the music :)

Apr. 13, 2008 | 7:01 AM Kanti says:

ok ok 1 more comment lol! what i think Xendarc91 was tryin to say was that punk is AWESOME but theres also metal and ska and good ol rock

maybe have it to where you have menus to select what kind of genre you want that note to come from, having heavy metal have more shredding wailing notes, good ol rokk having steady lines and some one of a kind solos. throw some ska in there.

if you need me to clarify that more PM me i try to check newgrounds at least once a day ^_^

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:39 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Yeah...I know there are other genres haha but it's punk-o-matic so I'll stick to punk

Apr. 13, 2008 | 7:43 AM The-EXP says:

Add a rhythm game engine to it, say, once you've saved your song you can go into a playback mode. Each little segment loop generates a certain set of notes for keypresses and it strings them all together for you to be scored on, guitar hero style. If this was already in the plan ignore me...

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:40 AM Evil-Dog responds:

You've been ignored :P
that's the core of the career mode, you compose your stuff then you play it live ala guitar hero / DDR
Someone reading all my responses will know all the features haha

Apr. 13, 2008 | 7:45 AM Xendarc91 says:

yeh thanks Kanti
that was what i was trying to say.
ok I'll go away now :)

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:42 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Goodbye :P
If I was to make another something-o-matic, it would be trance-o-matic or metal-o-matic, but metal like Children of bodom, dunno if that's what you like....but I love melodic metal

Apr. 13, 2008 | 7:47 AM Korgha says:

you work for ubisoft :O

and ideas for punkomatic2, BATTLE MODE

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:42 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Expend on that idea, what do you mean?
You can play with 2 players but there's not much battle going on....it's more coop.
so what kind of battle did you have in mind?

If you are not too far into developing it I have some awesome ideas, good luck. Can't wait!

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:43 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Well you're at the right place man, share them if you want :)

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:10 AM white-darkness1 says:

Custom clips of music? Like, instead of only having the usual selectable clips, you could also open the clip editor, and it would open a separate timeline that you could put a few notes on. Clicking on the note would change the pitch instead of the played section. Then back on the main timeline, you could use the custom clip anywhere.

I don't know how difficult that would be to code, though.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:45 AM Evil-Dog responds:

There's no such thing as pitch changing in flash so I would have to record all the notes. Flash's sound system isn't that great to handle many sounds, you probably noticed even in POM1 some clips are off sync. On a note by note basis it would be hell. But I'm adding a new kind of box to "cut" the current riff so it will help structuring the songs a bit better. but it will still be clip based.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:51 AM randomgerbil says:

there should be bass and vocals (by voals I mean srcreams and stuff)as well as drums rythm and lead.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:59 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Bass is there....vocals....maybe :)

Apr. 13, 2008 | 9:57 AM randomgerbil says:

oh,I just have another Idea: set design and a section that shows you the tab for the scores so u can play it in real life as well!

Apr. 13, 2008 | 10:00 AM Evil-Dog responds:

the tab generator is alreay there
Set design, maybe :) do you mean like...customize the place where you play?

Apr. 13, 2008 | 11:00 AM Sialys says:

More clip selections, instead of less than 13, maybe around 20 or so... I always had a problem with creating two songs that sound almost exactly alike.

A longer table to make longer songs. It always bummed me out that I had an awesome song goin' and then I had to end it as soon as I had something good going.

I'm not sure if someone directly suggested vocals, but if you ask me it's not a very good idea. I mean, maybe some punk screams would be cool to start a song, but that could go under one of the guitarists selections, guitarists are usually the ones screaming anyway. :]

Bass wouldn't be too fun either, too many instruments to keep track of and it'll send the file size to fucking high heaven.

Get rid of the background music? Other environments? More demo tracks (inspiration and new features.)?

As for career mode, I saw you were adding that, great idea! Start off as a slacker that just chills in his/her house playin'. Dreams of startin' a band and then you go out and audition for other bands. Maybe the first song you play could be set up to one of your demo tracks. And then if you make it, obviously you're in the band. If not, you move on to another group to audition for and play another demo. (I'm not sure of how complicated that is, but hey, it's an idea!) As for WHILE you are playing in career mode. A store would be cool, new guitars, new drums, new clothes, equipment, etc.

Just some of my ideas, not sure if they've all been mentioned. Sorry if they have.
Good luck we're all here waitin'!!

OH! Another thing, don't give a release date. Surprise us by showing us on the front page!

Later bro!

Apr. 13, 2008 | 11:13 AM Evil-Dog responds:

Some good suggestions dude

Clip selection: I'm going for 40 riffs for each instrument.

Song length: It will now be doubled, so it's like 5 minutes, Should be enough.

Vocals: Yeah it's not really doable but I like your idea of putting it in the guy's riff list instead of a new vocal tracks. I'll see what I can do, some screams and Oi! could be nice but I'm not sure it's worth the headache.

Bass is definitly there but I added a tool to lock it to the rhythm guitar if you don't care about it.

File size: it WILL be big haha

Background music: I won't get rid of it come on...it would be boring as hell without it. But like in POM1 you can turn it off

Other environments: Yeah especially in the concert mode? But customizing the jam room should be there too. Not sure.

More demos: Yeah definitly. In POM2 they're called Covers

Career mode: It will be more about making songs and playing them live to earn money and fans. And you're not one guy but 1 whole band that you create, customize and make concerts with. There are no stores but you can fully customize your characters but you need to buy each little part.

Suprise: Fuck yeah haha

Thanks for the lenghty comment. Some good thoughts in there
Cheers man :)

well I guess from the comment above you already have all the stuff I would want in there.

Oh yeah! and another short movie like "Dude!" in POM1.

This game will be FUCKING AWESOME!!!

Apr. 13, 2008 | 1:10 PM Evil-Dog responds:

I plan to make a bunch if possible

Apr. 13, 2008 | 11:44 AM Akitta says:

well...the only thing i could think of is 'secrets'. like..you play specific notes after each other you get new equipments and clothing...or maybe hidden shorts with the P. Dude (and the penguins, of course)I know it could be a real shitwrack to make them...but DO IT FOR THE FAAAANS!! I wanna see the P. Dude slice a penguin in half by his scythe XD hehe, just kidding...

Apr. 13, 2008 | 1:15 PM Evil-Dog responds:

You're not gonna see the P dude and the penguin anymore though, they are copyrigted and I wanted to make POM2 completely copyright-free.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 12:05 PM Afro-Ninja says:

This comment serves as additional motivation

Apr. 13, 2008 | 1:16 PM Evil-Dog responds:

because you didn't wanna make the escape game I have to work on POM2...sigh...haha jk

Apr. 13, 2008 | 12:41 PM Murad136 says:

Thanks dude, you shust earned yourself a spot in my FAV artists fir a few reasons. Ok, first of all there should be a pretty big options of dressing the dude up? Also, what I thought is you could enter your own 46x46 pic as the guys face for fun! Make it exactly te same as last time, maybe even a career mode or battle offs. If you decide to go along with career mode I think yu should add little clips in between anda reputation or respect bar. Last - There should b a few mini-games, I mean who doesn't love those?

Thanks.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 1:27 PM Evil-Dog responds:

yeah there's a big character customization part
The pic thing would be weird haha
yeah little clips here and there....sounds good
mini games...yeah....dunno....I already have a game to make haha

Apr. 13, 2008 | 1:20 PM Evil-Dog responds:

Thanks :)

Apr. 13, 2008 | 12:55 PM LtMcMuffin says:

I think a quicker way of finding the riff/beat you're looking for would be better. I imagine Punk-o-matic 2 means more possibilities and more parts, so if you could streamline the process somehow so you don't have to keep clicking and sampling until you find the working one, blah blah you get what I'm talking about.

Also Dead Kennedys for background music. And none of that remastered bullshit by East Bay Ray.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 1:29 PM Evil-Dog responds:

I'm gonna use local bands for the music. Nothing big and copyrighted
And yeah I have better mechanics to try the riffs before using them :)

Apr. 13, 2008 | 1:42 PM NegativeONE says:

Hey buddy, you should add character customization and hip hop ;D

Har dee har har, see what I did there? Anyhow, glad you're back on this one. There's nothin' like a project where you don't have to wait for the animator :P

Apr. 13, 2008 | 2:17 PM Evil-Dog responds:

exactly haha sigh....bunch of slackers!

Apr. 13, 2008 | 2:22 PM Unbeatable-Cloud says:

As much as I loved the first Punk-O-Matic, there was just something missing. And trust me, I had loads of fun playing around, making my own songs, hell, I even learned a few of the riffs on my own guitar. But one thing I think would make the game great, to appeal to a greater audience, even, would be different riffs. I mean different like..Not JUST Punk music riffs, you know? I really enjoy playing around with this, but I think if there was a wider variety in the sound, then there would be tons more fun. Maybe some death metal riffs, some thrash, black metal...Ah, a little too much. I understand that you've gotta come up with these riffs, but hey, if it'll postpone it a little longer, it'd be well worth the wait.

Anyway, just a suggestion, like you said, "out-of-the-box-thinking." Can't wait to try out the new Punk-O-Matic! RETURN OF THE PENGUIN DOODS!

Apr. 13, 2008 | 2:32 PM Evil-Dog responds:

yeah I know people want a bunch of other styles....but it's punk-o-matic so it'll stay punk :)

Apr. 13, 2008 | 2:28 PM Korgha says:

When i said battle mode i was hoping it would inspiring you to make one LOL

one idea could be that you could play against AI in a sort of guitar hero style with predefined tracks. But thats nothing like the original game so im not too sure if you should include it.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 2:33 PM Evil-Dog responds:

Haha....so you just say a couple words and expect to trigger some crazy ideas from me :P
nice try...I'll see what I can do about BAAATTTLLLEEE!!!!

Apr. 13, 2008 | 2:36 PM Unbeatable-Cloud says:

Alright, that's admirable enough :P

If ever you do decide to make another Blank-O-Matic though, might I suggest Melo-Matic? I'd say something like Children of Bodom/Norther/Wintersun type riffs. Now that'd be a game I'd play every couple of hours...For a couple of hours at a time :P

Apr. 13, 2008 | 2:40 PM Evil-Dog responds:

Yeah, my choices would be trance-o-matic or metal-o-matic...and it would be like Children of bodom, would be awesome :)

Apr. 13, 2008 | 2:56 PM XxCowMeatxX says:

I think you should throw a little metal in there this time. you know a metal riff here or there. oh and customizable length and a feature that lets you start anywhere you want in the song. i hated that in the first one if you made a change you had to listen to the whole song over again.

good luck with the new one... ill be waiting in excitment.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 5:42 PM Evil-Dog responds:

I'm sticking to punk
and you can already start from anywhere in the song in Punkomatic 1
I hated people who can't read the help

Apr. 13, 2008 | 3:05 PM Eli216AkAMcdoAddict says:

Another appearance of the penguin stoners? And is it possible to add some bass in it this time around? One thing I surely liked about the first is that the notes, no matter how it was arranged, sounded as if they were molded together on purpose. Hopefully I still see and hear that in the sequel...probably you can make a contest, if you haven't, out of this? Or try to have some vocals this time? I'm thinking sort of the intros of The Offspring (namely All I Want with the "Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!..." or the backup vocals on Tiny Voices (like what Brett and Bryan did during the solo part of the song)...Or better yet, why not have like an interactive showdown between either other players, or AI by having them play the notes in a certain way or pattern in which people are most interested in? All in all, just keep it in the same essence as the first game and it will turn out just right...

I dunno if my advice is worth a look at, it's really late here and I'm drunk, my guitars (yep all 3 of them) broke down before a gig and I'm listening to Meshuggah and The Beatles to pass the time...

Apr. 13, 2008 | 5:49 PM Evil-Dog responds:

There will be a bass this time.
But no penguin stoners, the postal dude and the penguins are copyrighted and I'm not putting copyrighted stuff in this one.
I may try something with some vocals but I don't think it's worth it
have fun passing time hehe

haha....hmmm...

Apr. 13, 2008 | 4:09 PM IrCoolerthanu says:

In my opinion, what would be really kick-ass, would be the abilty to make an entire show, not just a song. Like, adding smoke, lights, pyrotechnics and such.

Apr. 13, 2008 | 5:51 PM Evil-Dog responds:

I'm gonna make light effect that matches with the music but I find that composing the lights would be too much micro management. I'll see what I can do

Apr. 13, 2008 | 5:45 PM theshyster says:

More pre-made songs. I'm sort've music creating impaired so I can't make songs. for shit. XD!

...Or was that already suggested?

Still, good luck with the project!

It'S already in the plan...but whether it's directly in the game or on the official website using the same copy-paste mechanics as the first one, not sure yet.

Thanks :)

Apr. 14, 2008 | 8:46 AM Knott-Yeti says:

I Have a billion ideas but im listing down the ones I thought could be nesescary(w/e) (pls dont blame me if i copied your ideas as I didnt read the ENTIRE list of comments)

1. Please make it appropriate for all ages, we dont a want boobz in there and kids cant enjoy the fun cuz SOMEBODY , put boobz in there. Also, no vulgarities, nudity, sick jokes, trying to make sick jokes , not funny sick jokes, trying to make sick jokes that are not funny sick jokes sick jokes sick jokes. and last of all , SICK JOKES.i must emphasize on the sick jokes , sick jokes sick jokes sick jokes sick jokes sick jokes.... sick jokes......

2. Currency, when you complete a certain song in career mode, depening on how well you played, you get payed a certain amout of money(eg. Got C+ and earned $750) The money you collect can buy you new guitars, drums, basses, so on. If enough money is earned, can unlock a secret character or song. Maybe a composer .

3. Achievements. Put an achievements tab where you can see what special things you have done (eg. Get A+ in 10 songs in hard mode, unlocked all secret songs) . This can lead to ...

4. Secrets. No point getting achievements if there is no rewards.(eg. 3 Achievements unlocked = uhh... Super crazy irish difficult expert advanced mode)

5. Make a name for your band and compete with other * NPC bands* to win the Annual Best Music Awards ( ABMA ( W/e). If the music is good( I dont know how to do that but anyway) you earn a trophy which can help you in career or challenge mode.

6. Rankings(scoreboard) . Nort like F, B+ ,S , D- or w/e. I mean like if you get all S's in all songs in career mode, your ranking would be " Teh Godliest Chuck Norris shoop da whoop pedobear". But if all songs get D- or D+ or c, you get the rank" An old lady can kill you with a nickel"

7. House. A rock star cant live liek a bum on a street! not much about it here
it is just to buy gating and reinforced doors so PAPARAZZI cant break into your house. But, the less popular , the less paparazzi, therefore , the less money. BUT!! the more popular, the more paparazzi, therefore , the more money(to buy gating).

8. I WANT A GH3 inspired part. compose a song and play it. Upload any songs. Do anything, can even record your own voice =D.

9. AND THE LAST OF ALL..... the u;ltimate ending, an epic cutscene showdown to see which is the best band in the universe, you will be playing agaainst an alien team lol.

ttas all , 9 points written in an easy to read manner , with a few grammar errors. I hope you can include soem of my ideas. I d be as HAPPY AS A HANDICAPPED BEGGAR WINNING $500000000000000000000000000000000000

Apr. 14, 2008 | 1:13 PM Evil-Dog responds:

All Ages: Yeah I guess someone here is a puritain...I'll try to cut down on cussing but meh...kids all know what are boobs and say FUCKING FUCK anyway...

Money system: The customization and extras in POM2 are already based on money earned from live concerts but the money you get is not based on the score but like in real-life based on the number of people who came to your show...the more fans you got the more money you get no matter how bad you sucked...but if you sucked...you'll lose a bunch of fans and your next show will be empty...

Achievements: I have a stats sheet so I'll try to put as much cool little infos as possible :)

Secrets: What I wanna do is unlocking little funny clips as you play.

Fame: I'm not gonna go into analyzing music to say if it's good or not...that's not really possible...some like your song, some don't...there's no algorithm to say if a song is good.

Rankings: I was thinking of allowing a scoreboard with a score on each songs that exists in the community but that maybe pretty complex, I'll see about that...
And your rank titles are lame haha

House: Maybe you're mistaking punkers with britney spears....in POM2 you spend more of your time in the jam room

Interactive mode: The career mode is like GH or DDR...you compose your songs in the jam room...practice them all GH/DDR and play them live to earn money and fans again..ala GH/DDR.

Ending: Hmmm.....no? haha

Thanks for the suggestions :) I like your idea about more stats
cheers

Take your take, perfect it. I would suggest that you can see some crowd so you won't so it in a warehouse with 1$ lights (AKA Punk-O-Matic 1). Plus i would recommend to add some pinch harmonics, maybe slides... And, of course, MOAR DUDE ON DRUGS WITH NAKED PINGUINS !!!!!

Ok so first, I love Punk-o-matic and can't wait for 2 to come out. I have read what most you are trying to accompish here, and I was thinking that I like everything people has said and hat I like what you're trying to accomplish so Rock...or Punk...on man!

Oh btw, wouldn't it be sick instead of adding the screams you have the player mic it out. I mean you should definitely add something where if the player has a mic with them they can totally rock out to it. I mean that is just my view. MIC IT OUT!!!

Well...I can't stop people from screaming in front of their computer while the music plays, with or without a mic....do I even have to do anything in the game about it?

So in conclusion, put this shit on xbox 360/ps3/wii, make crazy amounts of money, and crown me your new king! Of course in a formal way so you don't get fired... but your punk so they will understand if you do. lol.

seriously tho this is awesome news and after reading all these comments im sure your gonna make a tight ass game. From what I read, I liked the career mode a lot and am curious on how thats gonna turn out. As well as that section to dl others songs would be sweet too, all in game of course. But its cool that youve answered everyones response even if the questions have been repeated 4-5 times. lol but Good luck dude cant wait. /motivation end.

Apr. 14, 2008 | 2:53 PM Evil-Dog responds:

Yeah if POM2 is a crazy success, it's in my ideas to push this idea to console....with ubisoft or on my own...not sure...Ubisoft could have a badass budget for a game like that hehe considering all the guitar heroes game and rock band and all....not of them actually let you compose the music....that could be interesting.
About the career mode I'm still trying to find a good mechanic to not make it too much like guitar hero or DDR.
peace!

Apr. 14, 2008 | 2:53 PM Squalling says:

A few things that made POM1 difficult, was I would find a new rhythm i wanted to put at the beginning of the song or something... and then I would have to remake the entire song, in other words you should add an insert function so you can insert a new line.

Also if your gonna make 40 riffs per instrument then there should be a function that you click the square you want then type in the number of the riff, so you don't have to click your way through them all.

And this one I doubt you could do, but if possible make a way to compile the selected riffs into an mp3 file and be able to download it or something...

Besides those, thanks for making POM, it was great.

Apr. 14, 2008 | 3:19 PM Evil-Dog responds:

Yeah...like better manipulation of the tracks...hmm yeah I agree...I'll see what I can do to make it really intuitive and easy.

The new riff selection should satisfy you, you can hold keys to do like beofre, cycle up or down or erase but by default, clicking on a box opens a little dialog with all the riffs...you can click on the one you want or click and hold to preview it. Should be quite easy to work with.

For the song to mp3 thing, it's not possible in flash frrom what I know....but I was thinking of making a little external application that would take the code as input and generate a mp3 or a wav if I have no mp3 encoder at hand.

Me too :)

Apr. 14, 2008 | 4:31 PM Squalling says:

Oh one more thing, is you should find a way crop off the beginning to a clip instead of just the end, like you know how you can put another riff right after a long riff it ends at the beginning of the new riff, but say you want just the end of the riff, is there some way you could do that?

Apr. 14, 2008 | 4:57 PM Evil-Dog responds:

hmmm...I'll think about it, sure seems like a good idea. I'll see how I could make that

Apr. 14, 2008 | 6:39 PM Deathwishez says:

Okay, after reading a bunch of your comments, I'd like to add my own two cents. Now, you said that you would have 40+ riffs for each instrument but I think that you should have a few extra, and make it to where you have to learn some of the riffs from other guitarists in story mode, if thats too hard (I know what a bitch action scripting can be) just make it unlockable as you progress through the story. Plus I recomend having really short riffs (Almost like notes but a little more complex, like chords) and then you should make it to where you can build your own Solo in a creator mode or something... I love the whole customization thing you're adding by the way... And I'm not so sure if you covered this, it wasn't in great detail, but I also would absolutely love to see some kind of "Hot Keys" Like maybe not individual notes, but only enough to cover the whole keyboard so you could so a random solo in the middle of a song (Like in Rock Band) Plus, I'm not so sure how exactly you are going to go about story mode, the only way I can see it would be guitar hero style, if you can see another way, then you're a genius! (Which everybody on Newgrounds already knows you are) But other than that, I like all of your add-ins, so I don't won't to fill up this page with a bunch of non-sense that you have already covered, anyways, while you work on this, I'll head back to Punk-o-Matic 1. See ya!

~Deathwishez~

Apr. 14, 2008 | 7:05 PM Evil-Dog responds:

I thought about having unlockable riffs but what I want for POM2 is to keep it as friendly as possible. I don't believe people who just want to have some fun like in POM1 would like being limited because they're not playing the career mode. I also wanna make one experience and not separate game modes...but on that I'm not sure, maybe I should make 2 modes, one where you have everything and the other where you have to earn everything. But again....I think that to make music, it sucks to be limited. but it could be fun to receive other bunch of riffs here and there....I'll definitly think about that aspect. Casual mode vs Career mode.

On that note, about learning from other bands, one of the way to unlock "covers" (demo songs) is to pay to go to a concert and watch a band play a cover you've never heard....once you've heard the song it's unlocked and you can then load it in your jam room, play it, practice it and play it in concerts too.

Really short riffs, like I explained before, are not a good option because 1) it's a pain to make and harder to manage what sounds good together....and 2) frankly, if you're down to the single notes, grab a guitar and start learning the real thing...haha or use like a real audio software. it's just a fun little game. The quantity of riffs will give you the variety you need I'm sure.

The practice and concert modes are like guitar hero (or DDR) indeed....but I'm looking for an original interface, not the usual notes coming down....that would be rather overdone....but it works....

Thanks for the inputs, I'll definitly give a lot of thoughts on the whole unlocking aspect of the game.
Cheers

in this version i was hoping that it wouldent just be three bands youve taken sectionals from
other than just punk maybe put some more crazy guitar like dragonforce or heavy riffs like underminded
you need to put some beastly drums in there and maybe some drums solos for an easy song starter

im really hopin theres some heavyier and faster stuff in this one

like unseen or the casualties maybe clit45 possibly complete control or SOMETHING AMAZING YOU COULD DO PUT IN ASG

on a personal note

my friends band has amazing lead guitar they're called after the tragedy ,they're on itunes and have a myspace so maybe you could check out putting some of their stuff in it as well
